Winner of Site of the Year Award 2005

Site magazine has recently announced that Conservation Builders Ltd has won Site of the Year 2005 Award in the ‘Large/Multiple Phase Development’ Category.

Lower Mill Estate Ltd and Conservation Builders Ltd have collaborated to develop Clearwater in Gloucestershire. Located on the shoreline of one of the largest lakes for over-wintering wildfowl in the South West, the development is in an idyllic Gloucestershire setting.

The houses comprise a mix of detached and co-joined highly unique homes designed by the award-winning architect Richard Reid in the style of Rudolph Schindler. Each home maximises its relationship between where the inside stops and the outside starts. The choice of external materials and styles combines traditional finishes, such as limestone, hardwood and thatch, with modernist features, such as extensive glazed areas - the careful use of glazing leaves the stunning views over water and the countryside uninterrupted - and variable pitched roofs, to create contemporary homes that cannot be found in such an environment elsewhere in the UK.The 575 residential second homes are to be used for holiday purposes only, and there are four permanent homes. In addition to the second homes, Clearwater incorporates certain country-club facilities, including tennis courts, swimming pools, treatment rooms, a fitness studio, saunas and see lakes for fishing and sailing activities. Further to this, purchasers can take advantage of long walks in acres of open countryside, much of which is listed as a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
